My name is Loudmiyah Augustin. I am a nursing student at Kirkwood Community College completing an Associate degree in nursing and planning to continue my education after graduation to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) that would assist me in pursuing a medical career as a nurse practitioner in the near future.
As a young girl living in Haiti, my parents were not always able to provide my siblings and me with the proper medical care due to financial restrictions. As I grew older, I made a promise to myself to pursue a career in the medical field so that I could one day make a difference in the world. My dream is to become a nurse practitioner and to be able to provide affordable health care in Haiti and Africa as I am passionate about assisting people and improving their quality of life.
Furthermore, I want to contribute back to the underserved population in the United States that struggle every day to sustain their family, and who do not have access to medical insurance as other privileged groups. I would also like to establish a non-profit organization where I can create internships for nursing school students around the United States and allow them to travel to any organization around the world to provide free medical services.
I am grateful to have come across this foundation and hopefully I am one of the chosen candidates to receive a scholarship. This scholarship will allow me one step closer to my goal and academic achievements.
