
Dr. Evan Schmitz is an exceptional Locum Tenens Interventional Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist who has dedicated his career to managing critically ill patients with extraordinary expertise. He performs advanced interventional bronchoscopy procedures including EBUS with lung cancer staging and biopsy, endobronchial airway tumor debulking, hemoptysis control using argon plasma coagulation, cryotherapy, and laser treatments.
He developed and published a procedure for intrabronchial catheter treatment of bronchopleural fistulas in ventilated patients — showing his innovative and leadership mindset in medicine.
Dr. Evan Schmitz has helped establish ECMO programs and played a major role during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, managing numerous ECMO patients. He continues to provide advanced ECMO support along with the management of Impella CP, Impella 5.5, and LVAD devices.
He has vast procedure experience including percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tubes, intubations, central and arterial lines, and Swan-Ganz catheter placement.
One of his groundbreaking achievements is the invention of the AIROD®, a single-use telescopic intubation bougie designed to improve difficult airway intubations.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Evan Schmitz traveled across the country, tirelessly managing critical outbreaks and saving lives every day.
