Block ads and Google
It is unbelievable how much information Google and Facebook track you. Google will guess your age and probably your religion and political party affiliation based on your location and web searches then it allows advertisers to target you based on that. Facebook collects your private phone numbers from your friends that have you in their phone book and then makes those available to advertisers.
We advertise on Google and it is painful every time we mail them a check. We advertise because many people are searching for Pacific Medical Training but then our competitors buy ads on that term and they show up above us. So then we have to buy ads on our name to show on top of them.
You are the product. You should avoid advertisers from controlling what you see, and think for yourself. Here’s how to protect yourself:
- Stop using Google, use Duck Duck Go. Make it your default and go into settings and disable search results ads. This is huge. I don’t know why they let you disable ads.
- Delete all your browser extensions. They are spying on you.
- Install an ad blocker on your computer that is not sponsored by Google.
